Check the person behind the prescription.

A business name does not tell you who will assess you. Ask for that person's full name, role and licence details before comparing the offer.

Doctors: open the state profile

As of September 30, 2026, Massachusetts offers a free doctor profile search through FindMyDoctor.

The profile can show disciplinary action: steps a medical board or hospital took over concerns about the doctor's work. It can also show criminal convictions and payments over claims of poor medical care.

A blank part of the record does not prove that nothing happened. The profile shows what was reported to the board.

  • Match the full name to the person who will see you.
  • Check whether the licence is still current and note any restrictions.
  • Look for disciplinary action over concerns about the doctor's work.
  • Ask about any restriction or record you do not understand before deciding.

Nurses and physician assistants have different records

As of September 30, 2026, Massachusetts has a free online nursing licence check, including for nurse practitioners.

Physician assistants have a separate Massachusetts licensing board.

After qualifying as a nurse practitioner and completing at least two years of supervised work, Massachusetts law permits prescribing without supervision, as of September 30, 2026.

As of September 30, 2026, Massachusetts physician assistants need ongoing doctor supervision; the doctor need not be in the room.

Use the record for what it can tell you

A clear public record does not rate the person's skill or prove the care will suit you.

Keep the name and the search result with your questions. Then ask how the person treating you will assess your needs and answer questions after the visit.
